The problem with this (however cool) imaginary scenario would be driver rotation. Every champion would probably try to replace Schumi/Mika etc as soon as they are "banned". Especially with situation while both of the drivers are banned. They wouldn't drop from championship "because of no drivers" ;-) They would just sign someone else. But great effort, really! :-)

How about trying this real simple system, give one point for every car that you beat. The winner in a 20 car field would get 19 points, second place 18 etc. etc. Advantage of this system would be that every single pass would mean something.

No matter the point system I don't think there is a worse point system than nascars playoff system. No point system should have a driver lose a championship just off of 1 bad race. A driver could have a 2023 Max Verstappen like dominate season and have a dnf in the last race or have a bad pit stop and there's goes his championship, too a guy who was just good enough to get through each round of their "playoffs"

Complaining that the Malboro McLaren is too simple but then next round choosing the Camel car is crazy inconsistent. So many bad selections, most of all pretty much forcing Tommo to pick the Chrome McLaren over the ICONIC 92 Williams.

I perferred it when only the top 6 scored points, but back then the cars were nowhere near as reliable as they are now so it was actually easier for the lesser teams to score points, even podiums.

I started watching F1 in the early 90s and was a Senna/McLaren fan. I HATED Williams and their drivers with the fire of 1,000 suns. And yet, still, I can't help but love those blue, white, and yellow liveries. They are nigh on perfect and only beaten by the McLarens for that era.
